On April 20th, I turn 24 (unless you're reading this after the 20th, in which case I should be angry you didn't buy me something). Over the last couple days, I've scoured the news for significant events in history that have happened on that very day. I was pleasantly surprised by what turned up. April 20, 1534: French explorer Jacques Cartier begins his voyage to the great unknown. On his journey, Cartier discovered what we know today as Canada. Back then, it was called "North America." That's just a fact. April 20, 1792: France declares war on Austria. It was long-overdue. Those Austrians are such rabble-rousers. April 20, 1871: Congress passed the Civil Rights Act, effectively ending racism in America! Sadly, racism would return in the 1960s, but ended again in the mid-90s. April 20, 1912: Opening day for Tiger Stadium in Detroit and Fenway Park in Boston. I'm told both are baseball stadiums. April 20, 1961: President Kennedy's Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba is declared legally dead. It would later because what Kennedy was most remembered for. April 20, 1972: Apollo 16 lands on the Moon. Allegedly. It's also interesting (to me, at least) to note some famous births of the day: Prophet Muhammed in 570; diminutive French leader Napoleon; Nazi leader Adolf Hitler; Mr. Sulu of Star Trek; Joe Salzone. So, there you have it. What a busy day. |
Weekday afternoons on Indie Talk, SIRIUS channel 110.
Quoth the press release: Indie Talk is "groundbreaking radio where you can 'speak for yourself.'"
In other words, Indie Talk doesn't embrace any particular ideology.
You need a Sirius radio. What a dumb question.
